Hey Franz, I hope for this new aesthetic to emerge from a commitment to a more holistic approach to life. I am not the artist hiding away in the studio. It is important to be active to engage and contribute positively to learn and share as part of a community in whatever way one can. Im busy enough with college at the moment but Im looking forward to learning more about GlobalVillages Network and to contribute too.

All the best

I am happy to see this coming along here. Ning now has combined subscription feed at ning.com for interesting new implications perhaps.

Thanks for the welcoming. I'll think about the blog post. My thinking has further metabolized since, but maybe blogging about it could be very beneficial. First of all though, gratulation für Dein Engagement!

On your question about my blog post -- I have not changed it recently and it is still visible to me. I wonder if I need to change permissions on it?

On permissions, it was set that way; I just edited and set it to only me, published, and set it back to everyone, and published again.

Hi Franz. Thanks for your welcome message. I half expected it to be a standard computer generated one - but given it set me some homework I think it was more personal. Hmm "write a blog post about the various roles that are crucial in the dissemination and integration of any global information in a village." Where would I start? I shall think about it while I am out this morning and of course, as this is an online community, I shall ask for help.

Hi Franz.

I am still finding my way around here - have only just noticed the "view thread" option. That helps. Ref 'being one of the first subscribers - and double is tighter "- does that mean I've joined twice - new email address and old one I wonder. Sorry if I have caused confusion. If so maybe I should unsubscribe from the other address.

I know what you mean now when you talk about "the bridge" I drew for you. I am glad you liked it.

To be honest I have so much to write at present elsewhere that the idea of explaining the bridge in words instead of a scribbled diagram seems more than I am likely to get around to. Also, I am not so sure yet about its relevance to digital villages, maybe we could just have a gradual discussion about some bits of it and how they would/would-not apply to digital villages.

I guess one of the first issues is information exchange, and equality of opportunity. Also, generalisations can be dangerous. It can seem there is agreement, but there is not really. When the generalisation is illustrated by specific examples sometimes it becomes obvious that the people generalising did not have as much overlap and agreement as they thought.

So the communication bridge, and global villages. I think of your video about people watching a distant lecture and then discussing it. Perhaps that is the specific example I should have in mind. Even that is quite an interesting one, although it is comparatively simple. Maybe we should look at that example - the different people involved, their roles, and what the technology is doing to their roles. Then we can gradually make it more complicated. Would that be okay? And perhaps do it as a little conversation to just return to now and again.

I wonder if responding to your mention of the "Community Access for Digital Solidarity" should really be a separate thread. I don't usually go to conferences - for a variety of reasons - so it is unlikely I will be there, but thank you for passing on the information.

I will look for Matyas Gaspar

Hi Franz. Thanks for taking time to extend a welcome.

Ms. Vaughan's ideas seem quite profound. And I look forward to the possibility of more properly acquainting myself with them in the future. Briefly though, just on the notion of a "gift economy" ...

To be honest : for reasons similar to those expressed by Robin Upton on the Oekonux English mailing list recently, I have reservations about even using the word "economy". I also, like yourself and Stefan Merten, have reservations about the word "gift" - albeit perhaps for different reasons, and ones that I don't have the energy to articulate right now. I can see a possible appeal in your preferred term - "fluid" - however.

I have shared some (tentative) thoughts closely related to the notion of a "gift economy" on the RBEF forum in case you're interested : http://rbefoundation.com/grouptopic.php?f=11&t=293 .

I am very pleased to be to your community. As far as I know, you suggested the Arkhangelsk region information cooperation in the development of rural areas.

Hi Franz,

Thanks for the link to Claude Lewenz's site -- very serendipitous to find amazing resources like that here in NZ. Like him, I'm a transplanted North American (I'm from Canada). As it happens, my wife and I are visiting Waiheke Island in a month, where he lives!

Cheers,

Kevin

You are absolutely right. I talk with Gleb Tyurin and he speaks of the same problems. As I wrote on my page, I am writing a scientific paper based on the idea of the book Gleb Tyurin, also collects materials related to his work. I am not working directly in the village. But, in my research I want to prove the necessity and importance of ideas Tyurina for Russia and other countries. And in the future, after graduation, I would like to participate in the realization of a new village, global village, as you call it
