I know what you mean now when you talk about "the bridge" I drew for you. I am glad you liked it.

To be honest I have so much to write at present elsewhere that the idea of explaining the bridge in words instead of a scribbled diagram seems more than I am likely to get around to. Also, I am not so sure yet about its relevance to digital villages, maybe we could just have a gradual discussion about some bits of it and how they would/would-not apply to digital villages.

I guess one of the first issues is information exchange, and equality of opportunity. Also, generalisations can be dangerous. It can seem there is agreement, but there is not really. When the generalisation is illustrated by specific examples sometimes it becomes obvious that the people generalising did not have as much overlap and agreement as they thought.

So the communication bridge, and global villages. I think of your video about people watching a distant lecture and then discussing it. Perhaps that is the specific example I should have in mind. Even that is quite an interesting one, although it is comparatively simple. Maybe we should look at that example - the different people involved, their roles, and what the technology is doing to their roles.Then we can gradually make it more complicated. Would that be okay? And perhaps do it as a little conversation to just return to now and again.

I wonder if responding to your mention of the "Community Access for Digital Solidarity" should really be a separate thread. I don't usually go to conferences - for a variety of reasons - so it is unlikely I will be there, but thank you for passing on the information.

To be honest : for reasons similar to those expressed by Robin Upton on the Oekonux English mailing list recently, I have reservations about even using the word "economy". I also, like yourself and Stefan Merten, have reservations about the word "gift" - albeit perhaps for different reasons, and ones that I don't have the energy to articulate right now. I can see a possible appeal in your preferred term - "fluid" - however.
