"Welcome! Although this network is not very active yet, I hope it will soon take off towards very practical goals. Maybe we also will have a chance for activating key people with microgrants then."

Profile Information

My education:
Harvard (BA) 1974
My work and my background:
I'm president of Openworld, Inc., a volunteer network and consulting practice whose principals have worked on economic and community development initiatives in 56 countries. I graduated from Harvard University and researched divestiture of municipal services to community associations as a Visiting Fellow of the Lehrman Institute. I was an early-stage publisher and managing editor of Reason magazine, as well as cofounder of the Local Government Center, springboard for Reason Foundation's privatization practice. My current focus is on: digital philanthropy as a catalyst for grassroots self-help initiatives, online markets for telework, special economic zones and free cities for knowledge industries, land grants and human capital investment strategies for the sustainabiility of local and global good causes, and microscholarship/microvoucher initiatives to expand access to eLearning and eHealthcare in economically struggling areas. Our web sites are www.openworld.com, www.entrepreneurialschools.com, and www.openworldinstitute.org. Updates via @openworld (Twitter)
What is my contribution to a Global Villages network
We are offering "Seeds of Change" microstipends to students and social ventures that take steps to explore and act upon opportunities for community self-help and resilience (further information at Openworld.com).

Hi Mark,

With your interest in Virtual Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.
